This original painting / sculpture will be available soon in an online and live auction to benefit @artscounciloflakeoswego's Art + Community in Conversation series, around such topics as diversity, equity and inclusion, artist education, and hands-on programming through the arts.

The full moon closest to Autumn Equinox is known as the Harvest Moon ~ usually in September, sometimes in October. In Chinese culture, the season is celebrated with Mid-Autumn Festival, the most important festival of the year after Lunar New Year. The Harvest Moon rises around sunset and appears full and bright for three days, so enjoy this weekend of extra moonlight as the earth turns towards winter and our nights begin to come early.

One week until our next lecture event on July 27 that will explore topics around sustainable groundwater management, tribal history and traditions, and the power of art in fostering positive change. We're pleased to welcome three great speakers:

🔹 Dr. Sasidharan, an Assistant Professor and Sustainable Groundwater Management Engineer at Oregon State University, will present the topic of Managed Aquifer Recharge (MAR) and its role in mitigating the effects of drought, floods, and climate change.

🔹 Brigette McCoinville, an enrolled member of the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs and business owner of Salmon King Fisheries, will discuss the impact the the inundation of Celilo, the history of the tribes, the cultural significance of the lands, and the traditions, foods, and trade routes of the people.

🔹 Emily Jung Miller, an artist with a deep connection to the sea, will showcase her art practice centered around using natural and reclaimed marine materials. She will talk about her project called Ghost Net Landscape, which involves transforming reclaimed fishing gear into collaborative and interactive installations.

The photo tour of my exhibit last summer at @reserartscenter is now live on my website at emilyjungmiller.com/news 🌕✨ This image is from one of my "artist-at-work" public sessions, stringing moons and inviting informal conversation with visitors. These evening sessions were such a gift, seeing the exhibit come alive in a different way at night. So many magical stories shared. Thinking about the middle-aged man who told me that five minutes ago, he had smelled a very particular smell on the air that took him back so strongly to a memory of his own grandmother. And then he unexpectedly walked into my show.
