18 art panels
80+ species
Installed at Hagg Lake 2025!

Wonder Windows is a series of transparent outdoor panels exploring the vibrant ecosystems at Hagg Lake, west of Portland, Oregon, with a focus on native species. Developed through a six-month study of the connections between local plants, animals, and human activity around the water's edge. Eighteen unique, human-sized panels are located at trailheads and water access points on Hagg Lake's 14-mile loop road.

The artwork's style is inspired by the flat color of traditional woodcut prints and the transparency of stained glass. Each panel has a clear central core, with colorful cutout layers of transparent, frosted, and solid illustrations of the specific ecosystems at each site. The artworks are double-sided, with different designs and species visible on each side. Over 80 species are included among the 18 panels! The artwork's transparency is an essential feature that frames views of the lake, surrounding forest and hills, and curious visitors.

Art panels measure 6ft high x 2.5ft wide, each. Framed in black powder-coated steel. Frames stand 8ft from the ground. Panels installed starting in June 2025.

Hagg Lake is open from sunrise to sunset, 365 days a year. Click here to learn more about visiting the lake.
