installations : Lake Life
A study of plants, animals, and human activity at Hagg Lake, west of Portland, Oregon. Blending the flat-color style of traditional layered woodcut prints and the transparency of stained glass, with a focus on native species. Eighteen unique, human-sized panels are located at trailheads and water access points around Hagg Lake's 11-mile loop road. Each panel has a clear central core, with colorful cutout layers of transparent, frosted, and solid illustrations of the local environments at each site. The artworks are double-sided, with different designs visible on each side. The artwork's transparency is an essential feature that frames views of the lake, surrounding forest and hills, and curious visitors.
Art panels measure 6ft high x 2.5ft wide, each. Framed in black powder-coated steel. Frames stand 8ft from the ground. Panels installed starting in June 2025.
Hagg Lake is open from sunrise to sunset, 365 days a year. Click here to learn more about visiting the lake.
