Ancient Spanish Monastery, Miami #1061 Purchase
Red ti leaves and palm trees glow in the evening light, framing the courtyard and medieval hand-carved stone cloisters at the Ancient Spanish Monastery in Miami, Florida.
The Monastery was originally constructed in Spain in the 12th century for Cisterian monks from France. After 700 years as a Cisterian monastery, the building was converted to a granary following a social revolution in the 1830s. In the 1920s it was disassembled and shipped to New York, then re-assembled in Florida and re-consecrated as an Episcopal Church in 1964.
